Ben Thanh Market will tickle your senses with the vivid colors of pottery and textiles, the strong scents of spices and fresh fruit, and the enticing aromas of freshly cooked food. One of the oldest landmarks and the biggest market in the city, it was established in the mid-19th century by French colonialists. The current building, which dates from 1912, underwent some renovations in 1985. Walk among the stalls piled floor to ceiling with colorful goods including local handicrafts that make good souvenirs. View the "fixed price" signs as a suggestion and bargain like a local if something catches your eye. Note that prices are slightly higher than in other markets. • It’s a good market for souvenirs and house hold stuff.. hair accessories ,jute handmade bags, kids clothes , coffee , fresh fruits and dry fruits as well .. for clothes , bags and shoes it’s a complete brand copy so depends on tourists taste . You will not get anything local brand here .. it’s mostly made in Vietnam products but copy. If you go early then you can find silk and satin dresses as well . Due to lack of tourists not many shops are open. There is a small section for local food stalls and juices , desserts. if you have good bargaining skills you will end up spending all your money and get some nice stuff..it takes a while to understand the pricing then you become reasonable enough for them as well . P.S -Please don’t compare Thailand with Vietnam as the prices here are a bit higher comparatively
  • Been here twice. The prices are slightly much higher than other markets near Ben Thanh, however thankfully that some stalls you're able to bargain if you know your prices well. But as it's the nearest market to our hotel, we definitely did get all the last of our items before our flight back. Still a recommended place, just make sure the price is competitive.
