Create an itinerary including Lincoln Memorial
Parts of an iconic image of the capital city, Lincoln Memorial have been the site of some defining moments in American history. Overlooked by a marble Abraham Lincoln, the pool complements the monument's classic architecture, noted for its 36 fluted Doric columns. Martin Luther King delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech here, and the site has since hosted dozens of other social and political events. The monument is open to the public 24 hours a day, so consider stopping by at different times to fully appreciate the building's architecture, the views across the 600 m (2,000 ft) long reflecting pool, and Lincoln's stony gaze. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Washington DC holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Lincoln Memorial and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This was a quite impressive monument ( they all are) and I just sat there for awhile and took it in. Even with the crowds it is something to contemplate.

  • Its great how well conserved the Lincoln memorial is. There's bound to be a lot of people here, if you want to miss the crowd you got to be at the memorial early in the morning (5-8 AM). The view of the national mall & the Washington monument is beautiful form the Lincoln Memorial. If you pass by DC I recommend you visit it!
  • Abraham Lincoln. My favorite president. He is very interesting, but many people don’t know much about him. I would like to take a second to inform whoever is reading this real fast. Did you know that Lincoln is enshrined in the Wrestling Hall of Fame????? I mean, come on! Lincoln is SUPER COOL. But most importantly, I love him for issuing the Emancipation Proclamation.
