Dole Plantation explores the story of one of Hawaii’s most important exports: the pineapple. You can begin your visit with a ride on the pineapple express. A narrated 20-minute train ride tells you the story of the pineapple in Hawaii and how the plantation was founded. For even more information, take the garden tour to learn how pineapples grow and see more of the islands’ other important produce, such as cacao and coffee. The on-site maze, crafted from colorful Hawaiian plants, stretches over 1.2 hectares (3 acres) and was deemed the world’s largest maze in 2008. Don’t leave without sampling the famous DoleWhip. The part I loved, aside from the naturally dairy-free, gluten-free, fat free Dole Whip, were the locally sourced companies that made up the gift shop. Each vendor sold their own products, creative beautiful pieces and such variety. From hand carved wooden objects, to Hawaiian shirts, and embroidered hot pads, to inexpensive jewelry to fine jewelry. There were so many options. The food was good there. The candy and sweet selection was vast. Great place for shopping local.

We have been there before, I was with former residents and 1st timers. This was our best visit ever. Mike, the security guard saw us discussing trees in came over and took us on a tour showing us the different fauna and a story behind it. He also saw us another time and explained some of the Fruit hanging from certain trees and then we saw him in the parking lot directing traffic. He was friendly nice and welcoming and embodies the Aloha spirit. We will come back and recommend the Dole Plantation many times over because of Mike today.
