Take a guided tour of St. Augustine Wild Reserve, a rescue center for abandoned and confiscated exotic animals, from tiny birds to African lions and tigers. You'll be introduced to each of the species through basic biology facts and individual life stories. You'll have a chance to get up close with most of the animals, including wild cats, wolves, hyenas, numerous bird species, and a very rare golden tabby tiger. Depending on the tour, you may witness animal feedings, tiger bubble baths, or both. Reserve your spot as early in advance as possible to ensure availability. Amazing place. I love that they don’t allow you to take photos while on the tour. These animals are amazing and have such heartbreaking stories. Whether you’re a local or tourist definitely stop by for the 1.5 hour tour.
Tours are by reservation only but it was easy for us to find openings. Our group was about 25 people and was the perfect size. This reserve has many cool animals rescued from unfortunate situations. You can tell the animals are well cared for and loved by the staff; our tour guide gave details about every single animal. Enclosures are super clean and well-maintained. Make sure you wear walking shoes and bring water/sunscreen if it’s hot! There’s a golf cart to help those who need it. You can get really close to some impressive carnivores here! No pictures allowed but that helps keep the experience special! A better experience than some larger zoos.
