At the marine-research organization Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium you can explore marine life through a number of exhibits, including the 511 l (135,000 gal) shark tank. The aquarium has always been dedicated to educating the public on the science of the sea, with research on sharks and dolphins specifically. The laboratory itself opened in 1955, and the Mote Aquarium was later added in 1980. The aquarium is home to over 100 species of mostly local marine life, which you can experience in a number of ways. Take a peek into the working laboratory, watch manatees and dolphins play, or plan your own animal encounter. Learn about conservation and much more at this combination lab and aquarium. This place is amazing. I took my son here and he loved it. I love going to aquariums. This one is very reasonably priced and I love their natural looking real habitats towards the end of the experience. There is so much to do and see here. Additionally, I love that they are focused on real world research and have a center to care for injured sea animals. They have great things for young kids as well would highly recommend going here.

Can’t say just how cool this place is…both a display aquarium and a working rehabilitation facility. Great and informative displays covering species found in the Gulf of Mexico and doing great work caring for injured animals. Fish (including sharks), sea turtles, manatees and sea birds all on display and being cared for with an aim to release animals of they are capable to survive or to care for them permanently if not. These are the programs that an entry fee is gladly paid. Please consider supporting the Mote programs
