The third largest museum in the country, Philadelphia Museum of Art holds a collection of more than 220,000 pieces, including masterpieces by Picasso, Dali, El Greco, Rubens, van Gogh, and Renoir. With an exterior familiar to most from the "Rocky" movies, the museum preserves the creative accomplishments of the entire world, containing over 200 galleries and spanning nearly 2,000 years of art history. The museum holds important artworks from Asia, notably a collection of Persian and Turkish carpets, as well as recreations of a Chinese palace hall, Japanese teahouse, and Indian temple. The European collection encompasses works from the Middle Ages to the present day, while the American galleries survey three centuries of painting, sculpture, and decorative arts. The amount of art in this place is incredible. The building alone is worth going to visit. We spent 4 hours here and completely skipped a few exhibits that didn't interest us. You could easily spend all day here. The themed rooms are great. Information is well presented. Just be sure to visit all the rooms you are interested in. Each section has rooms with multiple entrances a lot of times so it would be easy to accidentally skip a room.

Wonderful new experience. Love the expansion & new galleries My favorite galleries are still there. The restaurant "Stir" although a smaller venue was excellent. Very attentive help from the guards as well as docents. Exhibits were so good, Jasper John's and Amos.(a new find for me & a must see.) Many new things to enjoy again.
