Barnes Foundation is known internationally for its collection of 19th- and 20th-century French paintings. Established in 1922, the museum houses extensive works by Post-Impressionist and Early Modern masters, such as Renoir, Matisse, and Picasso. It also exhibits American art, African sculptures, Native American crafts, and countless other international pieces. Honoring its founder Albert C. Barnes’s commitment to fine arts and horticulture, the Barnes Foundation also created the Barnes Arboretum, located on the Merion campus. Here you can round out your educational and cultural experience by viewing upwards of 2,000 species of trees and plants. • We got to go for a cool free block party they had where if you registered online you got entrance to the museum for free. We definitely plan to pay to go back - it's worth it! I will be taking my mom and mom-in-law as well. I've never seen so many beautiful and famous works in a single collection. So many beautiful impressionist pieces. The building itself is very beautiful too!
  • Beautiful building and cozy rooms filled with amazing artwork. I love the way art was grouped. It made you look at the overall and then focus in on each work. They were connected and separate at the same time. Verdant grounds and reflecting pools surrounding the property just added to the overall excellent experience. Definitely worth a visit.
