Opened in 2008 as part of the larger Audubon Nature Institute, the insectarium received the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Science Center in 2009. Hang out among hundreds of butterflies in the butterfly garden, or watch Formosan termites eat away at a wooden replica of the New Orleans skyline. In the historic U.S. Customs House, the Hall of Fame gallery shows off the world's biggest, fastest, and most impressive bugs. I've been to a few butterfly gardens and I do prefer the semi outdoor and/or more spacious ones. Still, kudos here for making due with the more urban restrictions.

This place was so cool, back when I went in 4th grade. The bugs were all so fascinating, and the staff helped us out. They also had some cool things in the gift shop too.
