Once a private garden for botanist Dr. Henry Nehrling, Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens opened as a zoo in 1969. Most of the original garden plan remains, and the zoo's pathways meander through thick Caribbean foliage. The main pathway is about 1.6 km (1 mi) with exhibits lining either side. Consider purchasing a ticket for the primate cruise on the man-made lake in the center of the park. The zoo's primate inhabitants populate the islands in the middle of the lake, and a ride on the catamaran is the only way to view them. Alligator Bay is home to the American alligator species. Check presentation times at the reception area to see the beasts during their feeding time. Check the weather before going. We paid for 4 adults and 2 children and once in the zoo we learned it was too cold for many of the animals even though the sun was shining and we were wearing shorts.

When we last visited Florida, we had checked out the Brevard Zoo (near Palm Bay) and it was amazing. The giraffe and bird feeding were highlights. Sadly, the Naples Zoo comes out like a poor cousin...

Absolutely fantastic! My FIANCÉ and I came by for the best zoo experience ever. I planned on proposing to my girlfriend over the weekend with not a lot of ideas on how to go about it. A friend suggested I do it at the zoo and call them in advance and maybe they can help out. They went above and beyond! When I called the zoo Renee the education coordinator answered and had nothing but excitement when I explained my situation to her. She among the rest of the staff and zoo keepers helped create such a welcoming and private moment for us so that I could pop the question. Throughout our visit random staff would congratulate us making it feel even more special. Not only was everyone there so extremely kind whether they knew or not but they were all so very well spoken on all of the encounters and chats. You can tell everyone was passionate about their jobs and the animals they cared for, they all had so much great information to share! Very well kept and great sized zoo. We will certainly be back the next time we travel to Naples.( hopefully within the next year) I would give more stars if Google allowed it! Thank you for providing such an amazing experience!
