Create an itinerary including Corkscrew Swamp
was created to protect two species of cypress trees that were at risk of being wiped out in the 1940s and 50s. Today it is a National Audubon Society sanctuary. Wet prairie, pond and bald cypress, and marshlands attract regional reptiles and birds. Keep your eyes open for cottonmouth snakes and alligators that prowl the shallow waters. Stroll along the boardwalk, added in 1955, to view the varied ecosystem. • Took the boardwallk trail in late April, right before the rainy season. As a result, we were able to see gators staying cool in close proximity to a number of wading birds and the occasional racoon...

  • A place to experience the real Florida. A 2.5 mile nature boardwalk loop trail through different Florida habitats also part of the Great Florida Birding Trail. There is a shorter loop trail...

  • This is a wonderful place to spend a couple of hours. The different habitats are interesting and I can see how it would vary a lot by season. The variety of birds was terrific. Watching the ibis and storks fish was amazing. We also saw a number of alligators. It’s not too crowded, so you can enjoy nature without too much human noise.
  • Serenity. Nice board walk. You can get to see a lot of wildlife. Some got lucky to see a bob cat, saw some birds, alligators, raccoons, some flowers, and much more. The woods are nice. Overall a great experience. If you like photography, this is a great spot. Plan ahead and bring bug repellent.
