Explore the natural world of the Florida Keys and see how people from different cultures have interacted here at Crane Point Museum & Nature Center. Take a stroll through the native plant species of the tropical hardwood hammock, see a variety of local animals, and visit the wild bird rescue center. The nature center's museum displays recreated habitats and artifacts belonging to various settlers and pioneers, from Calusa Indians to Spanish explorers and pirates. The touch ponds and play area provide entertainment for kids. You can also enter the well-preserved house built by George Adderley, an early-20th century Bahamian pioneer. Much of the nature center is outdoors; bring insect repellent to ward off bugs. This place was awesome! We weren’t sure if we were going to go or not and we are glad we did. Highly recommend stopping here if you’re visiting the keys. Great place to go for a walk through the trees (provide some decent shade from the sun) and the fish pedicure is cool too!
Great scenic site. Enjoyable trail walk. Beautiful sites. Fish pedicure was so fun! Clerk at front desk was nasty and rude. We arrived at 330, and were told that we had to be off the property by 5. We had checked hours and knew this ahead of time; we told him so; and promised that we’d be respectful of his time. When we returned at 448, the lights in the museum were off. We decided to walk the tiny museum before we left, which took another maybe 5 minutes. When we were preparing to leave, my nephew started looking at postcards but the clerk rudely told us the store was closed. We didn’t stay past 5. We weren’t late. We were incredibly polite and made sure to be gone. His behavior and treatment of us was uncalled for. Otherwise, though, it was a very enjoyable visit. I’d go back, but avoid the old man at the front desk.
