The site of one of Florida's tallest lighthouses, Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum sits on a hill once mistaken for a Native American burial mound. Completed in 1860, the lighthouse stands 32 m (105 ft) tall, its light visible from as far as 46 km (29 mi) away. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, the lighthouse offers tours to the top of its tower for panoramic views of the surrounding area. Before you climb to the top, visit the history museum located in a building used for naval housing during World War II. Be sure you're wearing comfortable shoes before you begin the ascent up the lighthouse's steep stairs. We really enjoyed visiting the lighthouse. It is apparently a very popular area with the locals. It was quite crowded the day we were there. The water is beautiful and the walking trails were nice...

What an awesome place! We tried to get into the lighthouse but they were having a wedding. We'll have to make another trip back there to enjoy everything around it. A lot of people fishing under the bridge. And when we went into the gift shop I found most perfect earrings I've been looking for!

This is a wonderful place to visit for history buffs and lighthouse fans. $12 admission gets you access to the museum, and the lighthouse itself. It's 35 steps up to the base, then 106 steps up the wrought iron spiral staircase to the top. The views and the 160-year-old Fresnel lens are worth the climb. Guided tours are informative, but not mandatory. Nice little gift shop, too.
