Located on the beautiful St. Johns River in the 10-acre Walter Jones Historical Park, the Mandarin Museum & Historical Society takes visitors back to old Florida. Explore a restored homestead site and relax on a riverfront boardwalk. Interactive exhibits present the history of the area. It is FREE.

Mandarin Museum:

Permanent exhibits explore the history of Mandarin and the river that defines the community. Displays include artifacts from Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Mandarin winter home and items recovered from the Civil War-era steamboat “Maple Leaf.”

Next to the museum is the St. Joseph's Mission Schoolhouse for African -American Children, opened in April, 2016. This building was built in 1898 moved to the park in 2015. The interpretive exhibits tell the stories of this school as well as others in the area like it during the post-Civil War era.

The Mandarin Museum offers a Gift Shop of books and art of local authors and artists. We are also the only place where you can buy a concrete frog, made by the famous "Frog Man" of Mandarin.

  • I hope they expand the space and its offering. It is a tiny local museum. I think they should change the name to Mandarin Historical Society.

  • This tells the story of a family and their history and the impact they had. Lots of gardens with old buildings. Plenty of shade many people just walking their dog there
