Explore the chocolate wonderland of Hersheypark, founded in 1906 as a leisure park for employees of the Hershey Chocolate Company. The park's first roller coaster ride opened in 1923, and today the venue contains a total of 70 rides and attractions, covering a vast area of over 45 hectares (110 acres). The six themed areas offer rides ranging from low-speed, gentle adventures for young children, to high-speed experiences for adrenaline junkies. You can also explore a section featuring a large water park, and a walk-through zoo dedicated to North American wildlife. Be sure to drop by the visitor center, containing restaurants and chocolate shops, and offering free chocolate factory-themed tour rides. • Two recent changes to the park make it a 4 instead of 5 stars. First, the main entry to the park was redesigned for the new coaster and updated buildings. In the process, they eliminated the trees and shade that used to bless the area leading to the main gates. Second, they added the scan and fill stations to accommodate the souvenir cups and I. The process, some vendors stopped offering refills. At least 3 of the refill stations on the side of park with Great Bear didn't have any ice or were out of service altogether. It seems something should be done with all the vultures in the zoo. They were everywhere. Related to the zoo, I think it's time to replace it with a botanical garden perhaps. The cages are small and seeing bald eagles, among others, in enclosures they can't fly or run in seems cruel. One of the bobcats looked so restless just pacing back and forth over the same short path along one side of the enclosure. The hawk and falcon areas both had mice or other rodents dead placed for meals I'm sure but their instinct is to hunt, not come to the landing and pick up a dead animal. Otherwise, it was a pretty good visit. Lines weren't too terribly long for most rides but assume that will change next week when the boardwalk opens.
  • First time to Hersey Park with family on 4/2/21. Opening day I think. Saw the cold weather approaching a week before and made 4 calls to the park and the Customer Service line to ensure the park and more importantly the rides would be open with the colder weather. Everyone said yes and that cold would not affect the rides unless it was very windy. Well it’s not windy and have been in the park since opening at 11 and not a single large coaster is open due to cold temperatures. Not what was told to me prior to arriving and would have planned another day to attend if they would have been better informed. Now have 5 teenagers riding ground rides and not having a good time. If they can not operate under 40 degrees like the Hersey associate just told me then it should be on their web site. Not a happy parent and feel today was a waste of money. Hersey could do a better job! Everyone is waiting in lines hoping the temp will warm up and rides will open instead of enjoying the park. And no refunds are being offered. Sad. Will never come back again.
