Lotz House Museum tells the story of the talented Lotz family and their home during the American Civil War. A guide will take you through the remarkable house. Admire the intricate carpentry of Johann Lotz and the finest Civil War-era antiques collection in the South. The Lotz house was in the central area of the Battle of Franklin, one of the bloodiest of the war, and you can still see damage from the five hours of fighting. Look for the charred dent in the wooden floor from a cannonball that crashed through the roof. Following the battle, the house served as a hospital for wounded soldiers. Bloodstains are still visible on the floors and walls throughout the house. On your way out, stop by the gift shop, which features DVDs and books about the Civil War, as well as one-of-a-kind antiques and collectibles. . In plain sight lies a very interesting story and gem of the area. Though the overall tour of the Lotz House is small, there is an enormous wealth of knowledge to be seen and heard. The tour guide, Seth, in our case, was highly educated on all aspects of the home, the story, the battle, and the history. It is well worth the price of admission. I would recommend you read up on the house, the battle, and the family, that way you have questions to ask as you walk through the home and are taken back to the end of the civil war. I appreciated the intricate woodwork of Mr. Lotz as well as the painting by his daughter and other pieces from the era. Overall great experience and great way to spend a couple of hours.

Awesome tour and American Civil War (Battle of Franklin) presentation. I was riveted. The tour guide brings history to life as if it were happening now. It's well worth the time and effort if you're interested in culture and war history. The Lotz House Museum is beautifully restored and preserved and will transport you back in time. The tours are small and discussion is welcome. There is also a gift shop on site. Many delicious eateries can be found nearby as well. It's a great way to spend any day of the week - window shopping, finding unique decor and gifts and simply enjoying being alive and loved.
