Hugh Taylor Birch State Park brings a tropical forest right into the city. The park, a former estate left to the city by Hugh Taylor Birch, is home to snakes, butterflies, turtles, and gopher tortoises. Rent a canoe and paddle around the lagoon, walk the nature trails, or visit the beach. Explore the visitor center inside Birch's Art Deco-style house to see exhibits about the park's ecosystem, the history of Fort Lauderdale, and Birch himself. Bring along a picnic and relax in one of the pavilions in the park. The park closes at sundown each day. Hundreds of years of history can be told through both the land and those who populated this estate turned state park. You get a little glimpse into the beauty of the Real Florida at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park whether biking it's two mile loop road, much of which is under a canopy of trees, or walking the butterfly gardens or happening along gopher tortoise burrows. See a Live Animal Show every weekend in the afternoon. Call for details. The park hosts several special events throughout the year and showcases the Florida Garden Club. Visit Park & Ocean restaurant at the Beach Gate entrance or canoe a fresh water lagoon. There's much to explore here.

Place was so fun, so much to do. We did the two people kayaks and bikes, the people working were especially nice. Sean gave us recommendations on what would be best for me and my kid as far activities, paths, and plan of attack, he said as so helpful and friendly. Make sure you bring water on the bike ride or kayaks as it's HOT and a lot of activity. There's a restaurant there, I didn't eat but a cold beer after the kayak was incredible. Lol. We will definitely be back, and bring friends. Good for small or large groups.
