Create an itinerary including Thornthwaite Galleries
Set in a traditional Cumbrian barn that dates back two centuries, Thornthwaite Galleries serves as a cozy yet contemporary art gallery. Browse paintings, prints, jewelry, sculptures, pottery, photographs and more from a number of local artists, many of which feature the Lake District's inspiring landscape. Most work on display is for sale, as are a number of gift items, so this also makes a great place to pick up a few souvenirs. Complete your visit with a trip to the on-site teashop, which serves up fair-trade tea and coffee, light refreshments, and sweet treats. Put Thornthwaite Galleries and other Thornthwaite attractions into our Thornthwaite attractions app, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Lovely, friendly hosts providing an array of brilliant local artwork, gifts and treasures. Plenty of space to enjoy the perfect, homemade soups, refreshments and drink. Most definitely the best in the area. Always made very welcome. A brilliant area for walking if you are able with plenty of often available parking at busy times. Also parking on site.
  • A warm welcome awaited us, there was even a biscuit for the dog! Very impressed with the variety of art on show; paintings, photos, woodcraft, ceramics, jewellery and more. Lots to look at while we ate a delicious lunch of toasties, jacket potato and the day's special Platinum Jubilee pie. Off the beaten track, well worth a visit.
