Explore 324 hectares (800 acres) of world-class wetlands set against the backdrop of the Severn Estuary. WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre is home to a wealth of resident and migratory wildlife from all over the world. Take a guided walk to learn more about the Slimbridge Wetlands, its history, the center's conservation work, and the wildlife. Tours take place once a day, so check the events board when you arrive at the center to find out where and when to meet. Be sure to also check times for talks and special events taking place, such as otter talks and the wild bird feed. Get up close to the birds and pick up some grain to offer them at exhibits where feeding is permitted. The Water Edge restaurant is an ideal place to relax after your walk around the grounds. The restaurant offers views of the Caribbean flamingos and, weather permitting, the picnic tables on the terrace allow you to get even closer to them. Binoculars can be hired from the reception, and you can visit the In Focus Shop on site if you’d like to purchase your own equipment. A magical place! I have been here a couple of times and every time have had an amazing experience. This the the place it all started with Sir Peter Scott who is such an inspiring character. Visiting his house on site with tour guide Mary was certainly one of the highlights. We got to learn a lot about this amazing man who brought WWT to life. We stayed at Tudor campsite a 15 minute walk away which we also highly recommend. A lovely place to visit.
Walked three and a half miles round Slimbridge on a nice, sunny but cold January day. Found it very calming and even though some areas were under 'maintenance' and some birds penned inside we still found plenty to keep our attention. To have credibility with other visitors you need a massive camera lens plus accessories round your neck. No refreshments available in the wildlife areas on this day but the cafe/restaurant in the visitors centre was open. Good toilet provision on the car park and in the centre.
