  • Parking at the Old Dungeon Ghyll public car park (£7.50 for the day), we hiked up to Bowfell (the 6th highest Wainright @ 902 m) on a gorgeously sunny day in March 2022. It was a good job we started reasonably early as the heat of the day would have made the experience less enjoyable, but as it was we were up the mountain in good time and before the temperature climed. It is a a clear and well trodden path (we ascended on the route known as 'The Band') that climbs up from the Langdale valley floor. Nearing the top the area opens out, roughly from Great Slab to the peak, which is more bolder flat and the path less clear. One should take care here as the weather can change quickly and it would be easy to loose your direction / orientation if cloudy / misty. As the photos will show, it was beautifully clear for us on this day - the view at the top was 360, with great views overlooking adjacent valleys and ranges. On the descent, we took the 'Buscoe' route, which follows the stream - lots of lovely pools to dip in if you have the time and has a nice waterfall. Give the hike a good 2-4 hrs depending on fitness and number/length of stops you make.
  • Amazing walk! Parked at the Old Dungeon Ghyll, made the circular which was about 13.5k. Great views of Scafell Pike once you get near the top, lots of snow in places too which made it even more spectacular. Probably the best walk in the Lakes we've done and we've done Scafell Pike from both sides and also Helvellyn. Highly recommended, but not for beginners. Good luck and safe journey if you attempt this :)
