Create an itinerary including Norwich Cathedral
Built in the 12th century and still holding services, Norwich Cathedral is one of 12 heritage sites in the area. Enter the cathedral through one of the two historic gates: the Ethelbert gate or the original gated entrance. Inside, you'll see 61 misericords, small wooden shelves also known as "mercy seats," carved on the underside of the folding chairs. Several hundred of the over 1,000 bosses (raised ornamental decorations) are carved and painted with ornate delicacy. A free guided tour will fill you in on the highlights. Tours are given daily, so there is no need to book ahead. The cathedral is an important cultural meeting place, with regular exhibits in the Hostry Visitor and Education Center and live music at the refectory. • I don't care whether you are religious or not, this is a must visit when in Norwich. It is so tranquil.

  • An amazing cathedral a real feast for the eyes. We spent an hour or so here and didn't know where to look next, there's so much to look at. A very impressive place.

  • Lovely place to visit and calming. Free entry, donations welcomed. Happy to wander around on my own, volunteers were available to assist with any questions and were very friendly. The outsude Cloisters are tranquil, sat on bench and enjoyed sunshine albeit chilly. Lots of places to quietly sit. Toilets clean. Cafeteria available although did not use this time. Would recommend.
  • This is a really really beautiful cathedral. Standing elegantly at the heart of Norwich City. Our visit coincided with the tour of Diplodocus from the Natural History museum in London. The City was packed with exciting and stimulating exhibitions for the kids. The visit to the Cathedral was very lovely and we were glad we did. The staffs were amazing. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Totally loved it.
