The zoo is set in 18 acres of beautiful gardens with plenty of picnic areas. Free parking is within zoo grounds and there are children's play areas for all ages including a picnic area. There is also a coffee shop and gift shop.

Since opening in 1972, the Simmons family has built up a positive world wide reputation for its success with breeding endangered species and is especially respected for its work with animals often regarded as difficult. The zoo is also an important centre for environmental education, programmes on offer attract nursery groups up to University level.

  • Great little zoo the animals look in perfect health and the enclosed are wild enough for the animals to hide away if they want to .staff are allways helpful all ways worth a couple of hours .

  • Great for younger children. Variety of animals to see, especially the large cats. Lots of free parking and large picnic area which you can use and then re enter the zoo as many times as you like. Reasonable entry price too. Wheelchair accessible also. Took my 14 year old who is autistic and he loved it. Nice, small zoo and not too loud and busy which is great for people with ASD.
