Billed as one of the best conservation zoos in England, the wild inhabitants of South Lakes Safari Zoo reside on 6.9 hectares (17 acres) of land designed to help them feel right at home. The highlight is the African section, which is split into different enclosures. A pair of pygmy hippopotamuses and a slue of mandrills occupy one. In another, you'll see white rhinoceroses, baboons, and giraffes. Hundreds of other species populate other enclosures spread throughout the park. Pay a visit to Maki Restaurant for a bite to eat, and grab a seat on the restaurant's deck for a view of the rhinos, giraffes, and baboons. Animals looked sad, most (giraffes, zebras etc.) caged inside during our visit. Awful smell as you walked round and the grounds weren't well looked after. Glad we got this on a wowcher offer! Only...

Loved it, despite the weather couldn't have asked for more. Currently there is an offer for the experiences and given how lovely and informative the staff were, I'd highly recommend. Also as this was a birthday visit, whoever I spoke to on the phone was also lovely helping me make the timings work. Only negative was the coffee at the main place wasn't good, however our friends grabbed some from the panda hide kiosk and said that one was much better. Overall a unforgettable trip :)

We went Yesterday and had a brilliant day. The park is really clean and well organised. The staff are really friendly and informative. The animals all seem happy , even got to see a family of Rhino running around which I’ve not seen in any zoo before. The walk through area was good as the Lemurs were sunbathing on the grass. I would recommend this zoo to anyone, all I would say is although all the paths are wide and flat it’s built on a hill so if you have mobility issues then get a powered chair or a good pusher.
