Gifted to the National Trust in 1950 but still inhabited by the Strickland family, Sizergh Castle houses a 14th-century solar tower surrounded by a Tudor house. Admire the Elizabethan oak-paneled interiors, inlaid chamber, period furniture and centuries-old portraits. Explore the seven-hectare Dutch garden, which includes a pond, lake, a national collection of ferns and the largest limestone rock garden belonging to the National Trust. Try to spot a Hawfinch, an elusive bird best seen in winter and spring. View the night sky unobstructed by light pollution from Church Fell and browse the gift shop and plant sales before you go. Check for events online in advance. There is 142 mi (229 km) of parking. Put Sizergh Castle at the forefront of your travel plans using our Kendal visit site.

Loved and enjoyed it! Visited a lot of castles in my life and most of them are just about big walls, rooms, bedrooms and armors... Sizergh is different. Everything here is just about the right size. Make sure to look for Charlie, while you are there. It's the black cat, living there :)))
Our second visit (after coming last June). It was great seeing the gardens in a different season. The spring flowers and the narcissus around the stumpery, in particular, were lovely as well as the beautiful cherry blossom tree. The gardens are beautiful here and there are lovely walks. We'll be back in the autumn to see the autumn colours! We even had Charlie, the black cat, following us! 😊
