  • For me this was a tick it off activity in the Lake District. We didn’t buy a ticket in advance but just turned up on a Wednesday afternoon and we’re able to buy a ticket , £14 pp and go straight in...

  • Like many people, I know Beatrix Potter's books from childhood so staying locally this was a must visit. Lovely cottage and as usual maintained wonderfully by the National Trust. There are no signs in the property so I bought the guide book. It was very informative and massively added to our enjoyment of the visit. The guides are also incredibly knowledgeable and very interesting to listen to, clearly very passionate about the property and Beatrix's life. I was inspired enough to purchase her biography on the way out!
  • Unless you know your Beatrix potter books quite well, or a member of the trust so don't need to pay, there is little appeal that warrants the entry fee in my opinion. Maybe in summer the garden will bloom with more excitement but was just an empty veg patch in early April. To be fair you can spot a number of clear inspirations for the books in the views and items in the house. And the staff are really friendly and if you ask them questions flourish with related information and personal favourites etc.
