Holker Hall & Gardens, Grange-over-Sands

Beautiful house, which is much more relaxed and welcoming than others. No roped off areas - you can touch everything! Lovely huge, light filled rooms with art deco carved wooden panelling plus some huge stained glass windows. The gardens are a nice blend of woodland and formal. We visited in April, when the tulips were lovely. No big herbaceous borders etc, but very nice. We had a very nice lunch, sitting out in the sun in the courtyard cafe. The staff in the cafe and volunteer guides in the house were all very friendly and helpful.

Lovely gardens Great mixture of different garden types. Formal gardens planted in a very English style, and a variety of woodland gardens to walk round. Magnolias in particular were a revalation, a number of different species in flower. Vast majority of garden accessible for wheelchair users, which is always good to see.
