Referred to as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, St Giles' Cathedral is the city's principal place of worship. Located on the Royal Mile, the cathedral is an iconic landmark in the Edinburgh skyline. Much of the current building was restored in the 19th century, but the four pillars in the center are thought to date back to 1124. Chapels, called aisles, were built around the pillars and extended out on all sides. This unique arrangement coupled with the vaulted ceilings and vibrant stained glass give the cathedral a timelessness. • We stopped in St Giles and found it very enjoyable. We appreciated learning about the church’s history, along with stories of knights and saints. A very impressive organ and stained glass windows.

  • Super cathedral in the middle of a bustling city. Stop and take a moment to come inside and absorb the enormity of the accomplishment from the exquisite building and stain glass, to the beautiful organ (that was playing when we visited). Structural like this give me goosebumps of appreciation and amazement. Sit and meditate or maybe say a prayer for yourself, family or even mankind. Always free to enter (donations always appreciated).
  • An awesome building with many memorials to the medical profession. Some beautiful stained glass windows. A wonderful feeling of peace. Admission is free, as they rely on donations. Give freely.
