Take a walk along the cliffs of Durham Heritage Coast, a once-booming coal mining area now restored to its natural beauty, including the spectacular rock pools at Blackhall rocks. The 17.7 km (11 mi) trail running along the cliffs from Seaham to Crimdon in the south makes a great way to take in the scenery. The coast supports a variety of plant and animal life, and features hidden caves, streams, and waterfalls. If you have time, explore the coast's towns with shops and cafes. I am reluctant to praise this area as it's a natural gem and I dont want to risk increasing footfall!! I live 2 minutes from this glorious spot and walk my dog here every day, it's so peaceful and beautiful, combination of coast and ancient dene with a nesting area of little terns. It's my happy place
