Create an itinerary including The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection)
For those interested in Scotland's regimental past or just looking to learn more about Scottish history, The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection) provides an educational, diverse experience. Partially based in Fort George's former Lieutenant Governor's house, the museum combines the intimacy of a small museum with an astounding amount of documents and relics. Start by going through the museum to learn about the Highlanders and their historical significance to Scotland. Representing three of the four famous Scottish regiments from the 1700s, the museum contains about 20,000 artifacts and 10,000 documents. Afterward, head to Fort George where you can ponder everything you have just seen while taking in the incredible view across to the Black Isle. Unfortunately, the age of the buildings gives little to no access for the disabled. Put The Highlanders' Museum (Queen's Own Highlanders Collection) at the forefront of your travel plans using our Inverness tour planner.

  • This museum is in Fort George and is great. It has lots of things from the war like medals and hats wore by people who got shot. Its free to enter, but don't don't fooled, you have to enter fort...

  • Great place to visit really interesting. The museum was amazing. The views were stunning. We had a great time. Our age ranged from 6-80 so it covered a huge age range and kept us all interested

  • What a great place to visit! This little museum has everything about the regiment, from uniforms to medals, and even a bit of Hitler’s desk from his bunker in Berlin. It has some great interactive touch screens and informative posters. Staff are really nice to, definitely recommend!!
  • A true "hidden" gem , featuring a variety of historical displays Centering around the military tradition of the black watch. My only comment would be that the museum is certainly geared towards those with an interest in the first and second world wars, with later conflicts receiving less coverage.
