Hobart — 3 nights

Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Step out of Hobart with an excursion to Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Brighton--about 30 minutes away. On the 21st (Fri), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. The adventure continues: examine the collection at Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), snap pictures at Richmond Bridge, get a taste of the local shopping with Salamanca Market, and admire the masterpieces at Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

Sydney to Hobart is an approximately 3.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train, ferry, and bus; or do a combination of bus and ferry. Traveling from Sydney in October, expect Hobart to be little chillier, temps between 20°C and 9°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Port Arthur.
