Kalambaka — 2 nights

The gateway to one of the largest monastery complexes in Greece, the small town of Kalambaka nestles against a landscape of imposing rock formations rising 400 m (1,300 ft) into the air. Nearly leveled during World War II, the town rebuilt and reinvented itself in the post-war period, quickly becoming one of the region's major travel destinations.
On the 5th (Thu), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Agios Stefanos, then take in nature's colorful creations at Varlaam Monastery, and then see the interesting displays at Natural History Museum of Meteora and Mushroom Museum. On the 6th (Fri), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Monastery of the Great Meteoron, and then don't miss a visit to Meteora.

Traveling from Thessaloniki in January, expect Kalambaka to be little chillier, temps between 7°C and -1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 6th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Metsovo.
