Cockermouth — 3 nights

Cockermouth is an ancient market town and civil parish in the Borough of Allerdale in Cumbria, England, so named because it is at the confluence of the River Cocker as it flows into the River Derwent. Escape the urban bustle at Derwentwater and Canyoning & Rappelling Tours. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Wordsworth House and Garden and J.B.Banks and Son Ltd. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cockermouth: Pooley Bridge (Chestnut House & Hallin Fell), Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum (in Threlkeld) and Aira Force Waterfall (in Penrith). And it doesn't end there: stroll through Catbells Lakeland Walk, take some stellar pictures from Surprise View, and see the interesting displays at The Puzzling Place.

For other places to visit, maps, ratings, and more tourist information, read Cockermouth trip itinerary planning website.

Bournemouth to Cockermouth is an approximately 6.5-hour car ride. You can also drive. Expect a bit cooler weather when traveling from Bournemouth in August: highs in Cockermouth hover around 21°C, while lows dip to 16°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Tue) early enough to go by car to Windermere.
