Snaking up the side of a rounded, tree-dotted hill, Hobart sits between Tasmania’s sprawling mountains and the vast estuary of the River Derwent.
Go for a jaunt from Hobart to Brighton to see Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary about 30 minutes away. On the 21st (Sat), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. And it doesn't end there: take in nature's colorful creations at Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, get a taste of the local shopping with Salamanca Market, contemplate the long history of Hobart Convict Penitentiary Historic Site, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mount Wellington.

Brisbane to Hobart is an approximately 4.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of train, ferry, and bus. Expect little chillier temperatures when traveling from Brisbane in May; daily highs in Hobart reach 18°C and lows reach 7°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) to allow time to drive to Port Arthur.

Surrounded by shark-infested waters and connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus of land, Port Arthur ranks among Australia's top historical sites and heritage areas.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Mon): tour the pleasant surroundings at Tasmanian Devil Unzoo, then see some colorful creatures with Wild Ocean Tasmania, and then indulge your senses at Bangor Vineyard Shed. Keep things going the next day: contemplate the long history of The Church and then get to know the fascinating history of Port Arthur Historic Site.
