Fort Lauderdale — 1 night

Known as the "Venice of America" because of its extensive network of navigable waterways, Fort Lauderdale welcomes over 10 million annual visitors, most of them attracted by the city's popular beaches and marinas.
Kick off your visit on the 12th (Fri): head outdoors with JP Outfitters Inc., then take an in-depth tour of Stranahan House, and then kick back and relax at Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Florida’s mecca of fun in the sun, the lively tropical metropolis of Miami is one of the world’s top vacation spots.
Step out of Miami to go to Everglades National Park and see Shark Valley Visitor Center, which is approximately 1 hour away. There's lots more to do: buy something for everyone on your list at Bayside Marketplace, get a taste of the local shopping with Village of Merrick Park, steep yourself in history at Barnacle State Historic Site, and admire the natural beauty at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.

You can drive from Fort Lauderdale to Miami in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. August in Miami sees daily highs of 91°F and lows of 78°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Tue) early enough to fly back home.
