The River City

The sprawling city of Jacksonville is not only Florida's most populous city, but also the largest city by land area in the continental United States.
Kids will enjoy St. Augustine Beach and Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. Change things up with these side-trips from Jacksonville: Ponte Vedra Beach (Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve, Sawgrass Country Club, &more), Lakeside Park (in Saint Augustine Beach) and St. Augustine (National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios, St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum, &more). Orlando to Jacksonville is an approximately 2.5-hour car ride. You can also take a bus; or take a train. In July, plan for daily highs up to 92°F, and evening lows to 73°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Amelia Island.

The southernmost Sea Island off the coast of Florida, Amelia Island takes its name from Princess Amelia of England.
