Mostly known for its world-renowned jazz festival, Montreux serves as a picturesque lakeside resort town on the Swiss Riviera.
Change things up with these side-trips from Montreux: Lausanne (Place de la Palud & The Olympic Museum Lausanne (Musee Olympique)) and Gruyeres Castle (in Gruyeres). Take a break from Zermatt with a short trip to Hangebrucke Furgangen-Muhlebach in Ernen, about 1h 25 min away. And it doesn't end there: stroll through Gornergrat, explore the activities along Stellisee, stroll the grounds of Mountaineers' Cemetery, and take in panoramic vistas at Sunnegga.

Appenzell District is a district of the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden in Switzerland. Step out of Appenzell to go to Heiden and see Kirchturm Heiden, which is approximately 32 minutes away.
