Chiapas travel guide

4.4
Waterfalls · Ruins · Specialty Museums
Mexico's southernmost state, Chiapas encompasses a relatively compact area that packs quite a punch when it comes to natural attractions. Chiapas tours lead visitors through a mountainous area dotted with pristine lakes, national parks, and friendly pueblos largely unspoiled by mass tourism. The city of San Cristobal acts as a natural base for many Chiapas holidays, featuring everything from centuries-old churches to trendy bars. Day-trip ideas from this lively urban center include tours of nearby Mayan ruins and visits to one of Mexico's remotest biosphere reserves. At the far south of the state, you'll likely have one of the last stretches of the country's relatively undeveloped coastline all to yourself.
