The capital of Vietnam, Hanoi has bounded back from the effects of war, and today serves as a bustling commercial and cultural hub bursting at the seams.
Start off your visit on the 23rd (Thu): let your taste buds guide you at a local gastronomic tour and then see Off-Road Tours. On the next day, add some adventure to your tour with a kayaking and canoeing tour.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiports are Noi Bai International Airport and Van Don International Airport. You will leave for Ninh Binh on the 25th (Sat).

Ninh Binh — 2 nights

A fairly nondescript town, Ninh Binh acts as a base for explorations of the province of the same name, with the karst landscape and lush valleys that surround the town offering a wealth of scenic vistas of rice paddies and rugged rocks.
On the 25th (Sat), don't miss a visit to Bich Dong Pagoda and then identify plant and animal life at Tam Coc. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: Head underground at Trang An Grottoes and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Bai Dinh Pagoda.

Traveling by car from Hanoi to Ninh Binh takes 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. Expect a daytime high around 28°C in March, and nighttime lows around 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Mai Chau.

Mai Chau — 2 nights

Mai Châu is a rural district of Hòa Bình Province in the Northwest region of Vietnam. Take a break from Mai Chau with a short trip to Moc Chau Plateau in Moc Chau, about 1h 5 min away. And it doesn't end there: stop by Hoa Ban Plus, tour the pleasant surroundings at Ngoc Son Ngo Luong Nature Reserve, admire all the interesting features of Thung Khe Pass, and cruise along White Rock Pass.

Getting from Ninh Binh to Mai Chau by car takes about 3.5 hours. In March in Mai Chau, expect temperatures between 28°C during the day and 22°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Hanoi.
