Athens — 15 nights

One of the world's most ancient cities, Athens remains Europe's undisputed historical and cultural capital.
Get a sense of the local culture at Temple of Olympian Zeus and Ancient Agora of Athens. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Mount Lycabettus and Corinth Canal. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Athens: Vouliagmeni (Zen Beach & Lake Vouliagmeni), Mycenae (Archaeological Site Mycenae, Lion Gate, &more) and Corinth (Akrokorinthos & Archea Korinthos). Spend the 20th (Wed) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. There's lots more to do: see what's hidden on the seafloor at Kitepark, get engrossed in the history at Archaeological Museum of Nauplion, walk around Philopappos Hill, and explore the ancient world of Temple of Athena Nike.

For ratings, maps, reviews, and other tourist information, refer to the Athens trip planner.

If you are flying in from New Zealand, the closest major aiports are Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport, Skiathos Island National Airport and Mikonos Airport. In July in Athens, expect temperatures between 38°C during the day and 28°C at night.
