Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Playa Delfines and Playa Tortugas. Take a break from Cancun with a short trip to Scuba & Snorkeling in Playa del Carmen, about 1h 10 min away. Bacalar — 5 nights

Bacalar is the municipal seat and largest city in Bacalar Municipality (until 2011 a part of Othón P. Blanco Municipality) in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, about 40km north of Chetumal, at 18° 40' 37" N, 88° 23' 43" W. In the 2010 census the city had a population of 11,084 people. You'll get in some beach time at Maya Chan Beach and Playa Mahahual. Step out of Bacalar with an excursion to Zona Arqueologica De Chaachoben in Chacchoben--about 1h 10 min away. Next up on the itinerary: contemplate the waterfront views at Lake Bacalar, explore the ancient world of Pyramid of the Masks, look for gifts at Diamonds International Costa Maya, and don't miss a visit to Fuerte San Felipe Bacalar.

You can take a bus from Cancun to Bacalar in 5 hours. Other options are to take a shuttle; or drive. In October in Bacalar, expect temperatures between 38°C during the day and 26°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Fri) early enough to take a shuttle to Tulum.

Tulum — 4 nights

The only Mayan site built to overlook the ocean, Tulum remains a coastal paradise preserving the last vestiges of a pre-Hispanic civilization.
You'll get in some beach time at Paradise Beach and Akumal Beach. Go for a jaunt from Tulum to Coba to see Cobá Zona Arqueológica Cobá about 48 minutes away. There's much more to do: explore the ancient world of Tulum Archaeological Site, soothe aching muscles at some of the top local wellness centers, stop by La Llorona, and whizz through the canopy at some of the top local zipline courses and adventure parks.

Traveling by shuttle from Bacalar to Tulum takes 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Bacalar in October, plan for slightly colder days in Tulum, with highs around 34°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 25°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Tue) early enough to fly back home.
