10 days in Fort Myers & Key West Itinerary

Ocala to Fort Myers is an approximately 4-hour car ride. You can also take a bus. Expect a daytime high around 91°F in July, and nighttime lows around 75°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 8th (Fri) to allow time to travel to Key West.

Located just 140 km (90 mi) from Cuba, Key West is an island only about 6.4 km (4 mi) long and 1.6 km (1 mi) wide.

On the 9th (Sat), enjoy the sand and surf at Fort Zachary Taylor, identify plant and animal life at Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, then examine the collection at The Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum, then don't miss a visit to Duval Street, and finally discover the deep blue sea with a scuba or snorkeling tour. Keep things going the next day: stroll through Audubon House & Tropical Gardens, see the interesting displays at Mel Fisher Maritime Heritage Museum, then take a leisurely stroll along Mallory Square, and finally kick back and relax at Bahia Honda State Park.

Traveling by combination of taxi and ferry from Fort Myers to Key West takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Fort Myers in July, expect a bit warmer with lows of 81°F in Key West. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel back home.
