Khao Laem Ya National Park, Phe

I like the island especially the national park but the speed boats are taking over the beaches, mooring 10m from the shore and in some cases even cleaning their boats in swimming areas. Lots of speed boats anchored just off the beach today 03.01.2020, I counted over 30! 01.02.22 Chinese New Year. There are no more speed boats on the beaches and because of COVID not so many tourists. The island is more beautiful than ever and has recovered well from mass tourism. The island was lucky to survive an oil spill unblemished but with the press coverage there will be a negative impact on tourism to the island. This makes the island more attractive as the prices for rooms remain cheap and there is plenty of room on the beaches and in the bars.

Nice place. If you're able, rent a motor bike to explore a bit more, the baht buses are very uncomfortable and seem in a rush over all the speed bumps. Down the south end is great for sunset. The more southern resorts are very isolated if you want to get away from everything, but again, I'd recommend a motor bike if you stay in those.
