Dating back to the 14th century, Wat Yai Chai Mang Khon remains one of the city's most famous and scenic holy sites. This magnificent example of Buddhist religious architecture was built by Uthong, the first ruler of the kingdom of Ayutthaya. Expanded and adorned with new buildings over the centuries, the religious complex is now famous for its imposing chedi--a large statue of reclining Buddha--and many other architectural features, as well as the peaceful and meditative atmosphere. Consider a guided tour of the complex, within easy reach from Ayutthaya city. One of the very nice historical place that worth to visit. The temple compound is very big. Best to visit during year end as the weather is not so hot. The temple consists of 4 sections: 1) The big Budda laying in sleeping position in the ruin chapel. 2) The main chapel 3) The main pagoda 4) The yard at the back of the pagoda Tourist is recommended to give respect to the place and local culture when visit. Visitors also can pray for your own good luck.

Brilliant place, this ancient temple in Ayutthaya is a sure must see if you visit, or are based, in greater Bangkok area. The whole place has a great ambience, you can literally feel the history of this place. And if you enjoy taking photos as I do, expect to spend an hour or two here. (From around 10 is the best time) Entrance fee is 20 baht.
