Once home to a spa complex and baths, Westerplatte was also home to a Polish military transit depot. Today the ruins of a World War II battle fought over this depot serves as a museum, and a totem-like monument stands tall on the peninsula. Carvings on the side pay homage to the Polish soldiers who died defending the piece of land. In fact, the peninsula is filled with memorials: some gravestones, some ruins of barracks. Each monument can be reached on foot or by water taxi along the coast. Using our international travel planner, Gdansk attractions like Westerplatte can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • It's not a place with the entertaining elements. I think it's worth to visit and appreciate the atmosphere of the place to feel what can happen when we vote for the wrong people.

  • Historical place. Need to visit with guide! Very beautiful... Meaningful.. 🙏🏻 Peaceful sky suits each country
  • Bigger place than I anticipated. If you're getting there by the ship I would recommend staying for 2h instead of 1h. We booked to stay for just 1h and it was barely enough time to get to the monument and back to the ship. We missed out on the museum and everything else that's around, all the boards with the history if the place, etc. Wish we booked to stay longer.
