One of the largest brick churches in the world, St. Mary's Church was begun in the 14th century and can hold 25,000 people. The large hall has enough space for three aisles under the high white arches with carved relief star vaulting. The plain brick Gothic-sytle architecture stands tall in the city center and is an iconic structure for the city. Artwork inside the church, such as the Holy Mother of God sculpture and the Ten Commandants sculpture, date to the 15th and 16th centuries. The organ is a 21st-century addition; its sound fills the space with music. Put St. Mary's Church at the forefront of your travel plans using our Gdansk road trip planning app.

There are a lot of steps and it is quite a climb up but the views from the top are well worth it. 360 degree viewing of the beautiful city of Gdansk.

The building is Amazing. It’s has very high walls and it looks very nice and old from outside and preserved from inside. Worth visiting while walking in the old town

This is one of the best churches I’ve been too. It’s very scenic. They have a wild selection of free displays to view. Also additionally you can pay to go the viewing tower. It’s a very long walk up, but you can see nearly all the city from the top. I’d definitely recommend going on a weekday to avoid having large crowds, but it definitely is worth the walk and it’s a great work out I believe around 500 steps. The displays show a lot of the rich history here!!

This church obviously has a huge history that cannot be touched upon without seeing and experiencing it with your own eyes. But it offers a very personal experience in and of itself and at a wider level that of Gdańsk and Poland in general. There are some amazing things inside, and the history is obviously key. I would recommend a trip up the Bell Tower although be warned that it is steep and some 440 steps (its a bell tower!). The views at the top though are worth it. Downstairs you have the astronomical clock and some gra es of national importance. Fascinating building.
