Create an itinerary including Nidaros Cathedral
Home of the grave of Norway's patron saint, Nidaros Cathedral stands as one of the country's most important religious sites and one of the largest medieval buildings in Scandinavia. Original construction started in 1070 over the resting place of Saint Olaf, and the church took on elements of both Gothic and Romanesque architecture over the centuries. Stop by the sizable cathedral to admire its dual bell towers and intricate facade, replete with arches, windows, and pillars. Explore the vaulted interior and its large stained-glass window section. Don't miss the crypt, which contains a multitude of medieval-era headstones found within the church. Before you visit Trondheim, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

  • Visited as part of an excursion from a Hurtigruten voyage. Very helpful guide who spoke fluent English and was clearly interested in all she was saying. After a detailed tour we were left to look...

  • Trondheim's main attraction, and with good reason. It is an achievement to visit Trondheim and somehow miss Domen. Worth it to get a guided tour.

  • Apparently, this is one of the top touristic destination in the country, and I agree with that. The long history of the cathedral, enriched with devotion both to faith and arts. Make sure to not miss this place if you are visiting Norway, especially if you are in Trondelag.
  • It's a beautiful building with great, rich history! They have the ability to scan a QR code to access information on the place, and a guided tour which is done in Norwegian.
