Create an itinerary including Bryggen
Explore the shops, galleries, pubs, restaurants, and museums dispersed within the medieval wooden buildings of Bryggen, designated a World Heritage Site in 1979. The site dates back to before 1070, and developed into an important Norwegian trading center with an office of the Hanseatic League opened here in 1360. Today the town is one of the most visited attractions in Norway. Wander the ancient alleys, sit and people-watch along the waterfront, and admire the Nordic houses. Stop by the Hanseatic trade building built in 1702, the Maria Church, the Bryggen Museum, the Hanseatic Museum, or Schotstuene assembly rooms on your way around town. Make Bryggen a part of your Bergen vacation plans using our Bergen day trip website.

  • I saw this on TV but i didn't find this until the last few hours of my trip. I think as it's low season, it's not really open. It was located just off the left hand side if the main harbour behind...

  • Bryggen is probably the star attraction of Bergen. I personally think there's better areas to see (just wandering around the other back streets for starters)... however, it is a must see, and worth...

  • It is very beautiful even when we visited in the winter time which we experienced all types of weather, we had rain, shower, snow, hail, high winds and a very brief of sunshine within 48 hours while we were here! Many bars, restaurants, coffee shops to enjoy! Those wooden houses show their charms no matter in the day time or night!
  • The most visited place in Bergen, the beautiful colourful houses surely look gorgeous on a rare sunny day. The narrow alleys and the vintage stores tell lot of stories! Dates back to 10th century, history of this old Viking market area is pretty amazing!
