Create an itinerary including Sami Siida
The story of Sami Siida has started in Bossekop (district in Alta) in the late 90s. During the summer months, visitors had the opportunity to greet the reindeers and chat with the owners at close range. The hosts at Siida got many questions from tourists who wanted to know more about the Sami people, culture and traditions. The permanent Sami Siida in Upper-Alta was in place in 2002 and was founded by Johan and Berit Anne Eira along with Kristina Nina and Nils Henrik Sara. The family has roots from Maze and Kautokeino and originates from reindeer herders in several generations. They live and work in a traditional Sami way this day today and provide this experience for their guests. Sami Siida is a must to see attraction and a meeting place for a good conversation and a traditional meal in Alta.

  • We loved our experience at Sami Siida with Jack and Espen! So much detail and thought goes into the reindeer sledding. The experience is much more intimate than you’ll find at some of the larger places in Norway. They made a cozy bonfire for us after the sled ride which allowed some more time for us to learn about the Sami culture and pet the reindeer. They made the most delicious cooked reindeer over fire that was the best we had during our three weeks in Norway! Loved the intimate and personal connection Sami Siida gives their guests! Be sure to stop in the museum too! They have so many different traditional Sami outfits and pieces that tell an interesting story. Save room for dinner too, because their onsite restaurant is fantastic! It’s open Sunday too! The reindeer meatballs and reindeer schnitzel were both delicious.
  • Book a guide for a reindeer sledge ride! You're getting a unique experience and some enchanting stories. The bidos in the restaurant is also well worth it!
