Create an itinerary including Patan Museum
Visit Patan Museum to observe the traditional sacred art of Nepal in a prominent architectural setting. Once a Buddhist monastery dating from 1734, the building rests on even older foundations that may go all the way back to the Licchavi Period (3rd to 9th century). To fight building decay, some parts were reconstructed to their original appearance, while some were adapted to the needs of the museum, thanks to joint efforts of the governments of Nepal and Austria. Inspect the exhibited rare objects of Nepal's cultural history, as well as the unique local handicrafts. If you want to rest, visit the museum cafe in the inner courtyard and taste a mix of traditional and Western delicacies. • Absolutely great museum. The exposition is thoughtful and thoroughly explained. The historical building of the palace is a museum by itself. But there are also so much art, parts of architecture with detailed explanations and so on. Perfect place to comprehend Nepalese Hindu and Buddhist culture.
  • One of the best place to visit for tourists if they are around Kathmandu valley. This museum reflects the ancient art and culture of Nepal and represents the richness. Nepal is cradle of Buddhism. Museum has some of the most precious idols of Buddha that you cannot see anywhere else in the world. The museum is not only working on the preservation of art and culture but also the an autonomous institution working on the designation of Buddhism. This is one of the finest museum that I ever saw. It did little bit researched and came to know that Austrian Government and UNSECO helped the Nepal to restore the area and organisation to develop as an institution. I guess one has to stay there for more days to have a good sense of locals and about the museum. I have some knowledge that different gestures and poses of Buddha represents different meanings. One can only comprehend if properly informed. For the first time I saw Buddha in so many positions and that feeling was great. I am planing to visit Nepal in near future and this time I will certainly stay for more. I wish you good luck.
