Examples of intricate traditional temple architecture encircle Taumadhi Square, a large plaza in Bhaktapur. The Nyatapola temple to Siddhi Laxmi, goddess of female creativity and power, dominates the square. Nepali King Bhupatindra Malla oversaw the construction of this five-tiered wooden building (Nepal's tallest pagoda temple), completed in 1702. Other impressive temples, including the intricate Bhairavnath temple to Bhairab, abut the plaza. Afterwards, wander over to the nearby area where potters create and sell earthenware crafts.
