Nestled in a picturesque location between two lakes, Glendalough Cathedral offers a slice of the region's religious history. Founded by Saint Kevin in the 6th century, the historical complex attracts hoards of day-trippers from Dublin, just an hour away. Much of the settlement's appeal lies in its scenic natural setting, its two pristine lakes ringed by dense woodlands, green pastures, and rugged tops of the nearby Wicklow Mountains. You can hike around the lakes, following a well-marked trail between the monastic ruins. Be sure to take a short break at the visitor center, which provides background information about the settlement through informative exhibits and brief video presentations. • Beautiful views. Old headstones dating back to early 1800's. The tower is 1000+ years old and still standing. Unbelievable history. There is an old church a little up the trails that states that all the old chieftains of the area are buried there. Really old headstones that were hand made in raw forms. Your next to a national park with great trails and walks up to water falls. There is families enjoying the beautiful area with picnics throughout the park. They have food trucks that serve good fast food. The hotel there has a little cafe. It's expensive and not that tasty. Food trucks taste better and are a lot cheaper. Learn from us. Save your money. We recommend this place.
  • Loved the scenery! Amazing to walk around a place like this knowing the history. Could sit and enjoy the views for hours!
